- When should I book in?
Newborn Photography shoots must be done in the first 2 weeks of life (ideally between 5-10 days old), so it’s best to book your newborn session while you are still expecting. When booking, I make a note in my calendar of your due date. When baby arrives, I ask that you add me to the list of people to message with the exciting news. I will then get in touch to schedule a time for your session. If you are looking for lifestyle photography, then there is no set time frame. We can discuss this further in your complementary consultation.
I photograph babies in my client’s homes, and bring with me all the things I need. I prefer to shoot in natural light, so when I arrive I have a little look around to decide the best place to set up. Sometimes this involves moving a little bit of furniture, but it is worth doing to get the best light.
- My Approach:
I create a toasty warm, quiet and calm environment for newborn sessions. My style has been described as soft, gentle and creative. I prefer to keep props to a minimum to create timeless images, but I do like using beautiful materials and wraps to snuggle your bubba into and keep them warm.
- How long will the session take?
Newborn sessions tend to average about 3 hours. I work around your baby’s needs and happily pause for feeds or extra cuddles.
- Extra Family Members & Styling:
I absolutely love to photograph babies with their family – Mum, Dad & siblings. There is no extra cost for immediate family.
In terms of clothing – you can wear whatever you like, however I recommend choices that are timeless and reflect your personality. If you’re stuck, I find light neutral colours often work well. I also recommend dressing everyone in clothes that complement each other. I am happy to discuss this further before your session.
- Older Babies:
If you missed your opportunity for a newborn session, I also photograph older babies – ideally at 6-8 months. This is a gorgeous age as they are full of smiles and often able to sit.
